"China has failed. … The Consumer Product Safety Commission has failed by not providing adequate resources and staff, and Congress has failed," he said. "There are moments when we need government."
--Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., on proposals to increase the staff and budget of the CPSC in the wake of recent revelations about unsafe imported toys.
Comments
As always for the left wing Durbin, its a matter of government not spending enough of taxpayers' hard earned money. Obviously, this is an opportunity for the comeback of "Made in the USA" as a competitive advantage for US manufacturers. Stay out of the way of US entrepreneurs and US consumers, Dick Durbin!
Michael | Friday, September 14, 2007 | 08:13 AMI hate to break it to Dick, but the product defects in the Chinese toys were, as usual, discovered by industry (i.e., Mattel) who THEN notifies the CPSC that they have a problem in order to more effectively advertise the recall. His rant is not too much different than asking why FEMA didn't rescue more people in New Orleans after Katrina.
