It seems like there are more federal government blogs appearing every day, but for my money, one of the best is one that I have to admit I've just recently discovered: Flow of the River, written by Environmental Protection Agency Deputy Administrator Marcus Peacock. There are several reasons why I like it:
- Peacock updates it frequently -- or has guest bloggers do posts.
- It's topical.
- He devotes a lot of space to core federal management issues like performance measurement and program evaluation.
- He's willing to grapple publicly with issues like how you handle comments on a blog in the federal sphere.
- He's pretty clever.

Tommy’s over-rated!? You must not be thinking of the Original at Beverly and Rampart. Steven, look at the reviews:
Citisearch.com: 4.5 stars.
TripAdvisor.com: 5 stars.
And as Travelconsumer.com says, “If I could easily get to Tommy's without taking an airplane trip, I would be there now.” Me to.
I've been reading Peacock's blog for the past couple of months, too, and generally agree with your assessment, Tom.
What's impressive to me is how Peacock finds the balance between a casual style and substantive content. This makes the blog feel less robotic and bureaucratic, and makes for a more consistently interesting read. Peacock's is the rare government blog that one actually looks forward to reading.
With arcane references to L.A.'s classic (but, I must add, over-rated) Tommy's Burgers eatery and word games he plays with his kids, it's also pretty clear that -- despite what must be a hellaciously busy schedule -- Peacock still finds the time to write the blog himself. That, too, makes the posts credible and interesting.
