Memo to Deputy EPA Administrator Marcus Peacock: What's your problem with hot dogs? Have you got something against all-American cuisine?

Tom, cocktail wieners (aka Vienna sausages) are not hot dogs and I wouldn't call them American -- I don't think the "Vienna" refers to a town in Virginia. :)

As for camping food, a tube of summer sausage beats cocktail wienies every time. Weighs less per calorie, lasts long, no can, all you need is a pen knife to eat it, and it goes great with hard cheese, a hard roll, or an apple. Leave no trace!

Perhaps Mr. Peacok is not familiar with cooking at a campsite. I suspect that most campers are carrying a limited amount of food and being able to "spice up" some available protein with what's at hand is a simple pleasure to be enjoyed while camped under the stars. Travel light and leave no trace.
