Christmas Eve Holiday: The Details
By Tom Shoop | Monday, December 10, 2007  |  07:02 PM

Now that President Bush has made it official that most feds don't have to work on Christmas Eve, OPM has come up with some details on his order.

Those of you who already planned to take annual leave that day should note this proviso: "If an employee has scheduled "use or lose" annual leave for December 24, 2007, and is unable to reschedule that leave for use before the end of the leave year (i.e., January 5, 2008), the leave will be forfeited."

retire on the 28th - you are incorrect. If a full-time employee's regular day off falls on Monday, the 24th, that employee is entitled to an "in lieu of" holiday on the preceding workday. If the employee normally works M-F, his/her in lieu of holiday would be Friday, the 21st. This guidance can be found on OPM's web page.

For those of you who may lose leave, please consider donating it to a fellow federal employee in need.

There are those who will always find something to grouse about. Take the day off and BE HAPPY!

If the 24th falls on your day off...too bad so sad... you don't get anything for it either.

Don't complain. Take the day and enjoy it. Also, plan ahead and take some time off at other times of the year.

I am not thankful. This does not make up for NSPS.
