Editors and reporters at Stars and Stripes newspaper are taking on their overseers at the Pentagon, the New York Times reports today. At issue is funding for a publicity program called America Supports You that apparently was funded through the paper.
The paper's two top editors are seeking the release of more details on the contracting arrangement. “This is not how an editorially independent newspaper should conduct itself,” executive editor Robb Grindstaff and managing editor Doug Clawson wrote in a letter to the paper's publisher and the Pentagon official who oversees its operations.
Stars and Stripes occupies an unusual position in that by statute it is deemed to be editorially independent of the Defense Department, but it is owned and partially financed by the Pentagon.

I love the stars and stripes and I was dumbfounded when I was FT. Benning PX and the girl at the checkout counter said what was that! The American Populous seems to think everything is OK but in reality I have Soldiers risking there everything they have including their life, to Defend, Protect and Ensure the safety of the people we love. The Declarance of Independance was not penned by wheeny whiners, Hell, they were Traitors and could have been killed. But Thomas Jefferson said "A Little Rebellion is good now and Again" These brave Americans risked everything in their lives including their family to ensure LIFE, LIBERTY, and THE PURSUTE of Happiness. ALL MEN WERE CREATED EAQUAL! Let Me Ask You This, When was Starbuck's last blown up? As long as defenders of Liberty stand watch, live in shithole conditions, not complaining about not having basic stuff, missing their family and folks, risking their lives for what? Because Their is a time when The Core, Army, Navy, Air Force and even the Costies jumped in. I am saddened in my heart to believe that the life we live in America is taken for granted!I am sorry because I am shaking my head from side to side just wondering what people think or do to get by whith no Terorist's. The next time you see a Member of the Armed Forces, Thank him or her. Tell them my (whatever INSERT NOW has not blown up) We keep them busy so you can enjoy the lifestyle you are accomstomed to. Resolve seems to only to be a quality in a few Americans. That's all I know or can tell but if you see me thank God you are on our side. God bless you and all your needs be met. I prefer to stand watch, Just in Case! Nuff said. p.s. I spell like S--T but what the H--l!
