A dentist tried to take the position that only federal employees and residents of U.S. territories should have to pay taxes. A court saw things differently. Then the dentist saw the light, paid her bill, and said she had been coerced by her husband into endorsing crazy anti-tax schemes. She still got 33 months in prison.

The FAIR TAX is the solution to excessive government spending. We as tax paying citizens have to live within a budget. It's about time the Feds do too. Say no to tax and spend antics. It's our children that will face the brunt of our actions, good or bad.
me | Friday, December 14, 2007 | 02:13 PMLet's go to the fair Flat Tax and get this over with.
Jimmy E. Walthall | Wednesday, December 12, 2007 | 11:33 AMTed:
I assume you mean taxes on their Federal salaries, not their entire incomes (otherwise, what about other income, such as outside employment or spouse employment, and how would you calculate the tax rate on such income?). But why reduce by 15%? That would probably not be enough for the high ranking officials who are in a higher marginal tax bracket, and would probably be too high for lower ranking people and those with significant itemized deductions.
wallyp | Wednesday, December 12, 2007 | 07:58 AMwow, 33 months in the big house. she would've been better off doing some dog fighting like mr. vick. he only got 23 months.
me | Tuesday, December 11, 2007 | 02:30 PMI have long believed that federal employees should be exempt from paying federal taxes (state taxes too under a reciprocal program). This would be in exchange for a one-time 15% cut in gross pay. Why take money from one pocket and put it in another? The government spends millions in calculating and collecting employee taxes. How dumb is that? I'll give you ten dollars and then you fill out a form and give me back two.
Other residents, however, need to pay taxes in order to feel ownership of this government of, by and for the people.
Ted Bean | Tuesday, December 11, 2007 | 09:54 AMit appears the dentist thought she was above the law; now she knows she is not.
ted knorr | Saturday, December 08, 2007 | 11:58 AMThe woman NEEDS a new husband!!
kmp | Saturday, December 08, 2007 | 01:07 AMWell, that would work. We federal employees could just pay our own salaries, and not have to answer to anyone! Don't know how the productivity would work out though!
