Screening Overhaul in the Works?
By Tom Shoop | Tuesday, March 04, 2008  |  05:40 PM

Apparently, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff thinks security measures at airports are a bit much. He has told Transportation Security Administration to take 30 to 45 days to "take a look at the whole system of screening at the airport," USA Today reported yesterday. The idea is to "maybe make a couple of significant changes to remove some of the burden" on travelers, Chertoff said.

It seems the agency has already started by trying to get companies to design a better laptop case so that travelers don't have to take their computers out of their bags to go through checkpoints.

I agree with ritgar. My husband has top clearance and has been to TSA many times in Oklahoma as a consultant however, yesterday we were traveling from Ft Lauderdale to Baltimore and he had his CPAP machine in his carry on and the TSA guard hassled him because he did not take it out of his carry on and put it separate on the belt. My husband questioned him where on the TSA website it says that you now have to take all electronics out and put them separately on through the scanner, the TSA rep said he was surprised that it was not on the website. Then the TSA rep proceeded to go through every little pocket in the backpack taking out my husband stuff, even after he checked out the machine and all the stuff that went with it. This was exteme and unnecessary delay and treatment. There is no consistancy with TSA. One time they want your camera out of the bag, the next time they ask why you took it out. Such a waste of time.

How about a line or expedited service for the thousands of us with secrect and even top secrect security clearances?? I don't mean this to sound like special consideration, I just mean that the government spent thousands of dollars checking my background, so why do I need to take off my shoes? It is a BIG time and effort waster.
