Air Marshals Snagged by No-Fly List
By Tom Shoop | Friday, May 02, 2008  |  12:17 PM

Ordinary citizens aren't the only ones who have been prevented from boarding flights because their names are similar to those on the government's no-fly list: It routinely happens to federal air marshals, the Washington Times reports. One air marshal called it a "major problem." In fact, earlier this month, the Federal Air Marshals Service had to issue a security directive to airline customer service representatives addressing the situation.

Bill Vickery's idea is another display of the reflexive cranial/rectal inversion-based thinking that has become endemic in post 9/11 Washington.

There are real world consequences from many of the security innovations we have seen over the last half-dozen years.

Not to mention the lingering aftereffects we will be having from some of our PTSD-influenced international initiatives.

To: Mr Bill Vickery who posted that he believes we should give our d-o-b info, our Soc Sec #, and who knows else to the airline company when we fly.

Hello!!! Hey Bill -- have you ever heard of identity theft?? A name, SS#, and dob --- that is all that is needed to literally wreck your finanical life for months to years into the future. Some stupid clerk at the airline is going to farm that information from their screen and sell it to the thieves.

You, my man, are not thinking.

The stumbling block are the States, dragging their heels on implementing the law of the land. Chertoff needs to stop accommodatingly them and implement the law as written. We can't have 50 state anarchy with the need for security. If they don't want to play then let them explain it to their taxpayers.

60 Minutes did a story on the "No-Fly" list, with the usual horror stories (DoD personnel with the highest security clearance who were on the No-Fly List). The story stating the List is a name match only - no age, race, sex, etc. That is why there are stories where infants in strollers are on the list. Sure this was done to "reduce" the number of data elements, saving money.

I'm not sure what data is included in the no-fly list, but with so many people having the same names, list needs to include name, SSN, and date of birth, at least. Smart IDs should have been issued to pre-cleared employees long ago.

This isn't a surprize, just another example of how big Government can't get out of it's own way. I'm sure the tax payers love hearing about how gov employees and especially law-enforcement are wasting time in airports. Gee,,, why don't most americans feel safe???

The fix is simple if you can get past big agency egos and issue smart ID's, for pre cleared employees.
