Sonal Shah, cont.
Rumor has it that Sonal Shah, the Google.org executive who was a member of the Obama “Technology, Innovation, and Government Reform” transition team, is set to run the White House Social Innovation and Civic Engagement Office. It’s a key gig, given Obama’s use of social networking as a major campaign tool, and the signs he’s sent that he’ll both try to mobilize his supporters as a lobbying organization when he sends bills to Congress, and that he’s likely to try to use Web 2.0 techniques to bypass the media when he has a major message he wants to get out to the public.
But my colleague Gautham Nagesh has done extensive reporting on Shah’s ties to a controversial Hindu nationalist group, Vishva Hindu Parishad of America. To be fair, Shah has distanced herself from the group and said she never would have been involved in the group if she’d known it would not condemn the participation of the Indian branch in 2002 clashes between Hindus and Muslims in the Indian state of Gujarat. But it also seems that she was more involved with the organization than she’s previously claimed.

ABOUT THIS BLOG
Government Executive Staff Correspondent Alyssa Rosenberg takes a look at news affecting the management and operations of the massive federal bureaucracy.

Sonal Shah & family have been indeed behind the killing & burning of thousand of Muslims. She has been very vocal about her support of violence against innocent Muslims and her philosophy is that India is a Pure Hindu country and there is no room for any other minority. Shah has not been forth right about her links and her background alliances were not extensively investigated to be part of our new administration where President Obama is promoting a inclusive approach to reestablish America's creditability and standing in the Global Map.

Shama Hussain Posted Wednesday, January 28, 2009 9:32 AMVery Good news. As a proud Indian American I welcome this news. Let us prey this news should be true. Being a true service minded person Sonal Shah deserves this honor.
Venkat Posted Wednesday, January 28, 2009 11:32 AMTo the poster above, Shama Hussein, fighting things with lies is not a respectable position; Sonal Shah has never uttered an Anti-Muslim sentiment, from what I can tell she has supported Muslims and Muslim organizations that do excellent work. You may disagree with the politics of an organization in India that is associated with an organization that she was involved with in America, but before you say such things as what you did above, it is prudent that you can verify it, otherwise you simply look like a bigot in your own right. I don't know Sonal Shah, but she has a track record of doing lots of good for the world, and unless she shows otherwise, we need people like her.
Faizal Mehta Posted Wednesday, January 28, 2009 12:22 PMITS A SHAME...
SONAL SHAH & FAMILY ARE CLOSE FRIENDS, RELATIVES AND ASSOCIATES OF THE 'BUTCHER OF GUJARAT' NARENDRA MODI. SONAL AND FAMILY LIKE OTHER GUJARATIS IN THE US MANIPULATE THE U.S. SYSTEM FOR MONETARY AND POLITICAL BENEFITS BUT WHEN IT COMES TO LOYALTY, IT IS ONLY TO THEIR HINDU RACIALISM AND TO THEIR HINDU VHP, NOT TO THE U.S.
SURESH Posted Thursday, January 29, 2009 10:11 AMOne does not have to have IQ to understand why Sonal Shah disassociated herself from hindu fundamentalist accused of butchering minorities in Gujarat and christians in Orissa. She knows it is not the time to be seen around with them. She knows very well what these organizations stand for and their violent intentions. She was in her 30ies when she actively held position in these organization. Now living in a nation with christian majority, she has been unmasked, so she has disassociate. Perfectly understand that change of allegiance.
Krishan Kumar Posted Tuesday, February 3, 2009 8:52 PMTake it easy with the conspiracy theories about Sonal Shah and Narendra Modi. It is okay to oppose them politically, but once you start believing conspiracy theories like Modi killed Muslims, it will only show that you have low intelligence.
In the Gujarat RIOT (yes, it was a riot, only low IQ people fell for the propaganda that it was a pogrom), 700+ Muslims and 312 Hindus were killed.
I know that you adamantly insist that ZERO Hindus were killed because White skinned man ordered you to say so, but this is clinching proof of your low intelligence. According to you and those who have commented here, 2000 Muslims and ZERO Hindus were killed. This is clinching proof of your mental inferiority and support of Christian fundamentalists like the church of Billy Graham.
