2 Percent Pay Raise for Civil Servants
According to Marc Ambinder, that's what Obama's got in his budget.

ABOUT THIS BLOG
Government Executive Editor in Chief Tom Shoop, along with other editors and staff correspondents, take a fresh look at news affecting the management and operations of the federal bureaucracy.

we are behind on pay from years past, where is our stimlus package, we get taken for granted one more time
harold allen Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 10:55 AMWe already do more than our part working for DoD by picking up the work left by those deployed! As usual civilians are second class citizens
GovExec Reader Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 11:15 AMI'm on NSPS, so I'm going to get 9 or 10 % anyway!
US Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 11:20 AMWhere is the outcry from the union leaders who supported "The One" in the election. CHANGE is here.
Bison6 Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 11:56 AMThis is typical politics. Promise to do wonders for the government employees during the campaign then dump them when they win the election. If it was not for my wife and kids, I would leave this horrible employer called the federal government! Do our part he says? Why does he not do his part. He can give corporations loads of money to cover their screwups, but to those who are working---penalize them!
Steven Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 11:59 AMI'm a fellow civilian Fed, and my message is this: Stop your whining!!
We got a rather large COLA this last time, while many folks in the private sector were told their jobs were gone. You should be happy that you still have a stable job where it is fairly unlikely that you'll get fired with no notice.
The country is going through a tough time, and we all need to do our part.
Fed in MD Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 12:00 PMWith the issues at hand 2% is ok. He could have done a Reagan and Clinton and said save the money and give 0%
Michael DeNude Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 12:51 PMI agree with Fed in MD, I'm a Fed in DHS and am very grateful for the largess of the federal government pay and benefits. After 30 years of Federal service, I wouldn't have it any other way. I've been through pay freezes and RIFs, so only getting a 2% raise if the least we can do to relieve the burden of the deficit on our economy.
We need to heed former President Kennedy's call to "Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."
Terry Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 12:52 PMI've been in the military, spent 10 years in private sector and took a pay cut to become a fed several years ago. If you don't like what the Govt is offering you, the door is wide open for you to explore your options elsewhere. But I'd suggest you ask your friends in the private sector what kind of annual raises they are expecting to get, and how much what they pay for their benefits went up.
Pat Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 2:05 PMIt is not the amount, it is the principle of a two faced President. Give money to those who failed and forget about those who are actually working for it. It is a President that has Trillions to spend except on his employees. If we are cutting back, why not look at other ways first. Like early retirement. Or cutting funding for unimportant things, like studying plankton in the middle of the Atlantic. There are many programs that could better use the money the govt spends. I to, worked in the private industry. Why don't we take there lead and fire all the underproductive employees...that would save money and help efficiency.
Steven Posted Thursday, February 26, 2009 5:12 PMIn these economic/political times, every Fed employee should be grateful for a relatively safe job with good pay and benefits. As others have said, you don't have to stay with a Gov't job if you disagree, but I'll bet you'll find the grass is not greener in the private sector for the foreseeable future. Some of us sound like those on welfare who are complained about so much; gimme, gimme, gimme........
