Apparently, ABC is wrapping up the run of Homeland Security USA early. Ed O'Keefe writes that the network isn't sure when it will air the remaining episodes of the show, which debuted to decidedly mixed reviews and low ratings. I've got mixed feelings. It's too bad to lose representations of federal employees on television, but yet another law enforcement show doesn't exactly add to the diversity of those depictions. And a show that isn't compelling doesn't do federal employees any favors.

  • Why am I not surprised? The time-worn ingredients for Hollywood's childish action movies are: steam, or smoke, flashing lights, endless gun battles with the bad guys NEVER hitting the good guys, constant clicking of pistol safeties and racking the slides, you get the picture! Just showing inspectors/agents doing their jobs has to be boring for the "dumbed down" American audience. Of course this series was panned. At least my friends didn't have to listen to my war stories for awhile....

  • That's too bad! I'm surprised that there are DHS employees who haven't even heard of the series yet. I thought it was a great overview of what goes on day-to-day in DHS. It should be required for viewing by all new employees.

My Tuesday nights aren't going to be the same without Homeland Security USA. I guess it couldn't compete against American Idol!

  • Sadly we are only interested in made up TV, with gimmicks, crime lab technology we can not understand, and loud sounds of make believe TV. We would rather watch the 10+ hours of horror TV weekly than 1 hour long program which depicts real life American law enforcement people in action. NOTE: To date I have only seen 1 episode of an agent where a weapon is drawn. Sure, in these episodes, we see more "senior" law enforcement agents than actual field agents, but it is still better than watch a program where "make believe" TV is supposed to make it better for the "good guys". I am not sensitive to illegal aliens entering our country, however, I am sensitive to the ridicule our American Citizen Border Patrol Agents are receiving when putting their life on the line each and every day to protect us.
