Chaffetz v. TSA
Members of Congress get heat for unpopular votes all of the time, but Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, thinks one group is trying them where it hurts--their travel arrangements.
According to the Salt Lake City Tribune, Chaffetz--who sits on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform--thinks he may have been singled out for additional screening by Transportation Security Administration officers due to his vote against H.R. 1881, which would have allowed those employees to unionize. The TSA is investigating an "incident" between Chaffetz and a TSO at Salt Lake City International Airport on Monday. For more info, check out the story.

Sounds to me that he thinks he is above the rules because he is a congressman. As a government employee that travels on business extensively for the last 5 years I am not exempt from any of the TSA rules. I have to go through the 'body-cavity' machine or get hand-patted. Even though my ticket clearly shows it is a government ticket. I think this is a total waste of time and resources since just looking at the ticket class on the boarding pass tells them I am a gov't employee. (yes we have a special ticket class). Suck it Congressman you are not any better than the rest of us.
Gov't Employee Posted Monday, September 28, 2009 9:39 AMI agree with the ban on the imaging machines. I once saw the screen display of a man. He definitely had been circumsized. No way would I get in front of one.
Richard E Posted Monday, September 28, 2009 10:24 AMEvery time I read anything about these people who think they are so far above the rest of us it makes my blood boil. why should Chaffetz be immune from the same security hassle the rest of us go through.
Barbra Bronsberg Posted Monday, September 28, 2009 11:37 AMHe needs to get a life.
The TSO was just doing his job. There should not be an expectation by the Congressman of "special treatment" just because he is a member of Congress. Maybe the Congressman is just a little paranoid...
