Obama and the Nobel Prize
I can imagine that many of you were as surprised as I was to wake up this morning to find that President Obama had been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. I have no insight into the prize committee's decision-making process, the merits of their conclusion, or the wisdom of President Obama accepting or rejecting the award.
Can I suggest, though, a couple of potential uses for the prize money, should Obama choose to accept it? He could donate the money to paying down the federal debt. He could put it towards funding for the food stamps. Or he could put it towards paid internships for federal service. But there's no question that Obama should donate the money if he accepts it rather than keeping it for himself. And while almost any charity is bound to be controversial and become the subject of partisan debate, putting the money towards good government would be both productive and hard to argue with, and would suggest that Obama has a personal investment in the issues he's pushing.

Here is a thought - Use the money to form a search committee to find a new Nobel committee. The current one has obviously gone from bad to worse on this one.
This award almost ligitimizes the fake/junk science employed by Mr. Gore. Truly amazing. Nine-plus months in office, zero accomplishments, but a Nobel prize anyway. Truly unbelievable.
Bud Posted Friday, October 9, 2009 1:49 PMPerhaps the historic nature of Obama's Presidential election--meaning not that he won but with 57% of white votes opposed the black turnout of over 16% of elgible voters swung the election. Normal black turnout percentage is 3-7% of elgibles. That distinction will swing the VA Gubernatorial election this fall. Anyhow the 2008 election combined with Nobel prix combined with frustrations with corrupt Congress increases likelihood of Obama deciding to leave after 1st term. All downhill as he knows in 2nd terms.
William R. Cumming Posted Friday, October 9, 2009 2:34 PMHe should give every penny back to the American taxpayers he is robbing with his insane agenda! Or, he could open an account for our grandchildren to enjoy instead of them having to wallow in debt because of his administration's poor management and bad decisions.
Giving the Nobel Peace Prize to Obama is like awarding a Firefighter of the Year award to someone who purchases BBQ at the annual fire company fundraiser. It just doesn't make any sense. I like the idea of using the money to elect a new committee. Good thinking!
Gail L Stoltzfoos Posted Saturday, October 10, 2009 4:50 AMLet's see. Deadline for peace prize nominations is Feb 1; Obama becomes new president on January 20th. He sure accomplished a lot in 12 days.

Bud Posted Tuesday, October 13, 2009 2:08 PMWas there someone more deserving? It is one of many statements from the rest of the world that they are glad that the previous regime is gone.
rettek m nad Posted Wednesday, October 14, 2009 8:23 AMNobel Peace Prize? What a farce and a shameful and disrespectful slap in the face to a few of the past recipients who actually deserved recognition. The Nobel Peace Prize is now completely worthless in value of any kind.
If Mr. Obama had any honor or integrity he would refuse acceptance. Instead, the narcissism continues, and "real" world leaders are laughing at the absurdity of it all.
American Posted Wednesday, October 14, 2009 11:27 AMAccording to the Constitution (which we question as being valid with this administration)the president of the US is not suppose to accept any presents (gifts)
Rebekah Easley Posted Saturday, October 31, 2009 2:19 PMduring his time in office. It looks as if he has the rest of the world in his small scope of admirers however, one foreign diplomat said "people from other pasrts of the world can admire him, but they don't have to live with him". I have a tendency to think more and more that the election was rigged just like to one in Afghansitan
because I can't find anyone who will admit voting for him. (smile)
